...Spring fever, that is. I fully and totally admit that having grown up in Southern California has made me into a TOTAL weather wimp. We've had so many days in the low 60's out here lately (and nights in the 40's, gasp!) that it has had the effect of increasing my need for warmer spring weather to freakish amounts. I know, it's pathetic. The good news is my 80 degree weather salvation is ALMOST here. Thankfully.

So in an uncharacteristic move for me, I'm keeping today's fashions very casual. In the recesses of my brain right now its all about easy care cotton tops, bright colors, jeans and shorts. Yes. (By the way, all clothing in this post is available from Forever 21 and shoes from Payless)

Budget Fun in These Tight Times

Hey all -

So, I know I haven't blogged about E.L.F. in a little while, but I must say I have been using their hydro tint (their tinted moisturizer)

in the lightest shade for months now, and really really love it. It is my favorite tinted moisturizer that I have found - extremely hydrating, good color and a bit of coverage, and doesn't make me break out. Plus its got SPF 15, so that is a good thing.

Today I logged onto the E.L.F. website to order some more of the stuff, and what did my eyes behold? A special wherein if you buy $20 of stuff you get a free $25 restaurant.com gift certificate and a fandango movie ticket, just for entering the coupon code DINE at checkout. How could I not take advantage of this offer? Talk about a deal! And this is on top of the fact that E.L.F. sells most of their products for $1 a pop. These are good things in these tight economic times. Take it from a girl who hasn't gotten a haircut in over 6 months.

So, I loaded up my cart with $20 worth of their goodies (which is actually harder than you would think when most things are a mere dollar). I ordered several more hydro tints, plus a few lip glosses (their super glossy lip shine spf 15 is a real deal lip gloss that comes in a handful of great shades), and I'm also going to try their all over cover stick and their shimmering facial whip

in Persimmon. I've been really big into the tinted moisturizer and blush combo for daily work primping, sometimes I don't even do eyes. I just feel like it gives me a naturally pretty glow. So this will be my latest blush addition if I like it. I rounded out my cart with a few body lotions (I already have and love their Pineapple Mango and Vanilla Coconut, so I tried their Peony and Lavendar scents this time, and at $4 a pop you can't beat it).

A word to the wise about E.L.F. When you first get your face products, they seem small, but a little goes a long way. I haven't run out of anything yet and I've been using my last shipment's stuff for months and months. Just FYI. Oh, and they also have a KILLER nail polish selection. I'm just sayin'.

So order away, get some great beauty products (the only things I haven't loved so far are the pressed powder - even their lightest shade is too dark on me - and their mineral foundation powder - not because of the product, but because it is really difficult to get enough powder out of the container), and then treat yourself to dinner and a movie on E.L.F. How's that for a chic and cheap night out?

Revisiting an old flame

So, it was my birthday last week. And as a treat, my mom took my birthday shopping at the new shopping center called The Americana out here in LA (from the same peeps who brought us The Grove in Hollywood). First off, let me just say, I like the Grove in spite of the slightly Disney-esque feeling you get from the water show fountain/pond and the red shiny trolley tooling around. It has some good stores, some great restaurants, a movie theater, and feels safe to walk around as a woman alone even late at night. Dig. The America is kind of like The Grove's 'tween cousin. It wants to be like the grove SOMUCH but doesn't quite understand and thus misses the mark by a bit. It still has some good stores, but it is quite small and most of the stores are way too label based (read: EXPENSIVE) for me. But there is a nice big new H&M there. So we went exploring. I found some great stuff at H&M (which is always a gamble for me. Some seasons they SLAY me and I love everything. Others I can't find a single thing I would pay for). I don't know if they are still having the sale because - I'm just going to say it - H&M's website positively BLOWS, but they were having a 2 for 1 sweater sale that rocked. I got several great cardis in various colors for about $10 a pop, LOTS of selections and styles to choose from. I also got a few skirts, a tan safari jacket and a few basic shirts. It was a good trip so far.

So after we emerged from the Swedish chain's white interior, we looked about, blinking in the afternoon sun, for any other store worth our time. Checked out Barney's, and walked right back out ($250 for a tshirt?!?!? oy.) We didn't know at the time that there was a Forever 21 in the Americana, which I will have to check out at a future date (its kind of tucked off to one side), but we decided to check out Urban Outfitters and its pricier, girlier counterpart, Anthropologie.

Let me just say that I LURV Anthropologie clothing and goods. If I was a rich lady with extra coin to toss around, I would totally blow it there. So. My. Style. But this particular trip just wasn't gelling in Anthropologie much to my dismay and we walked out empty handed. :-( Then we walked into Urban Outfitters, a store which I really hadn't frequented since junior high, when it was THE place to shop when hanging out on 3rd St. Prominade in Santa Monica (I saw Christina Ricci there in seventh grade and got very excited. I was a dork).

Well, slap my behind and call me Shirley - we found a HEAP of cute stuff at UO! Granted, their prices are a little higher than I would normally pay, but hey, it was my birthday, and also they really are on par with most of the trendy fashion stores out there (including much at H&M now). What seemed to be especially strong in their store at the moment was their dress selection, which you know I am a sucker for all the way. So because UO actually has a decent website, I am able to share MOST of what I got here with you (also got 2 little tshirt cotton babydoll tunic dresses in blue hues, but can't find them on the webbie)

SILENCE & NOISE COLORBLOCK NAVAJO DRESS $68 (I didn't.... actually.... get this one either. Because, well, because my mom didn't love it and she was the one taking me shopping. But I absolutely think it is such a sassy, arts&crafts feeling dress. I LOVED it. You should get it instead. Then I will feel much better. Thanks)

So, this is but a small sampling of the goodies at UO right now. Seriously, whoever is buying their dress selection is ON TOP OF IT right now. Super cute stuff, and I sort of hate them a little because they had even more cute stuff on their website that they didn't have on rack in the store. So if you come accross a little cashola burning a hole in your pocket, check it.

OY! It's '09! I hear you!

Ok ok.... it has been a RIDICULOUSLY loooooong time since I have posted. Like 2 months ridiculous. Jeesh. BUT it has taken me this long to get through the last of the holiday catch up game at work and the "I don't care what I wear because I can only fit into elastic pants" post-holiday fashion blahs. But now, as things return to normal, my shopaholic ways once again return with gusto. Aren't you glad some things NEVER change? I know I am...

FOREVER 21 vs. AGE ANGST

Hello my lovelies! I have been a bad bad bad non-poster, I know. :-( What can I say? I'm sorry. But I know actions speak louder than words, so I figured a good long fashion post would tell you all how much I love you more than words ever could. Shall we get started?

Now, whenever I have been particularily lazy about fashion stuff for a while, one of the first places I always check is the Forever 21 site. It's huge, they have cute stuff, it is a good representation of the current trends in most stores, etc. I've never felt the slightest bit bad about shopping at Forever 21. Heck, I'm still a (relatively) young woman, not a teenager, no, but it's cool. I have issues, don't we all? I was ok with my F21 love.

Until I started thinking about the new Forever 21 sister store that opened up at the Beverly Center here in LA this month - Heritage 1981. This was supposed to skew more toward my age demographic, a little older, a little more professional I guess? I hadn't had a chance to get to the store, but I figured I would check out some offerings online. Hmmm...I thought. There is some cute stuff here, some nice sweaters and tops. What I really liked on the site was the vast array of cute sweater vests:

All of these are cute, reasonably priced (between 20-25 bucks) and perfect for winter. Cool. But was I captivated? Was I plotting my trip immediately, and imagining all the wonderful places I could wear these? Not really... they WERE nice sweater vests, but is this what age appropriate means? No more fashion passion? Sensible sweater vests? I began to feel a bit uneasy...

Next, I thought I would check out Forever 21's other sister store, Twelve by Twelve, which also has a store in LA that I haven't been to yet (although, unlike Heritage 1981, I'm not sure exactly what Twelve by Twelve's "niche market" is supposed to be, besides female). So I went over to their website, and... it was weird. Some of the stuff was ok, but (like Heritage) the selection was MUCH smaller than F21, and the weirdest thing was, the clothing looked cheap. I think it might just be that their photo stylist or whatever wasn't doing a very good job, but the clothes just seemed to be hanging off this white mannequin, alone, sad and uninteresting. I thought these pieces were ok:

Cute enough, right? But these were, imo, the best offerings on the whole site, and I wasn't in love with any of them either (that jacket is pretty close to awesome, though). AND these were pricier than F21's similar items ($35-55, approx). What is going on, I thought? Have I lost my taste for fashion? Is this what is supposed to excite me? I only had one option - I would now go to Forever 21's website and see what this forbidden teenage fashion was that was previously so superior and age appropriate in my mind. So I did.

And you know what? I found TONS of cute stuff. For the late 20's gal, like me. I didn't have to search too hard, in fact, I had to weed out my list a bit. Look at all this stuff:

SO MUCH CUTER, and most of it would be great at the office, while the two short, swingy dresses would be totally great at a holiday party! All reasonably priced, and FINALLY my heart went pitter pat in the excited way that I remember! I was scheming as to how many of these wonderful pieces I could actually afford this month! I was imagining myself in them in various places, laughing or reading or some such activity and looking so chic. Ahhhh..... that is what I'm talking about people!

Oh, and I saw this:

THE CUTEST winter vest I've ever seen, and something I would most likely accost a group of blind, mute, orphans for. Ok, maybe not, but I REALLY love this vest! And $33? YES!!!!!

So, in conclusion, I say this to you. I shop at Forever 21. I will continue to shop at Forever 21. Perhaps I am delusional, but I don't feel the least bit inappropriate about it. So there. HA! I will go shop and be victorious in gorgeous new duds.

IT'S FALL FASHION TIME (I THOUGHT IT WOULD NEVER GET HERE)

Hello lovely people! As I sit here on a surprisingly uncharacteristic but welcome cloudly September day, I could not be more excited about the coming fall weather and the corresponding fall fashion. After all my endless talk of being impatient for summer so I could flounce in wafting and full skirted dresses, one would think I am a bit fickle. Well, to you I say, the best thing about the seasons is that they change. I tire of them quickly. I suppose I am quite fickle. But I'm ok with that :-)

ME!! Sorry for the scant amount of posts folks. Soon after my last post, I took a softball to the face (yes, really) and although nothing broke, it did quite a number on me and I haven't been feeling quite so in the mood for beauty when every time I look in the mirror I have mistaken myself for a) a boxer b) an alien or c) a zombie. This week finds me more on the mend (finally!), no more swelling, cuts healing, and only a scant amount of black and blue left under my eyes :-) So I am finally in the mood to beautify a bit! Sorry I've been out of the blogging game lately again... sheesh. The truth of the matter is I've been trying to save some extra cash lately, so I haven't been able to buy much stuff. Bummer. The truth ain't pretty, people. :-) But I've decided that shouldn't stand in the way of me pointing out what YOU can still enjoy!! So, without further ado, I wanted to tell you about a fantastic AVON sale that they are having TODAY:

Free shipping and tons of discounted items!! Avon has been around forever, and many women I know SWEAR by it. I have tried several of their products, and have always found them to be of good quality at a good price. Plus, they've been cruelty free for quite a while too, so support one of the OG cruelty free cosmetics companies! Yes, I did just say OG. Wow, did I just make myself sound REALLY dated? Wait, don't answer that....

Also, just wanted to let you know that I recently got to try some of the Smashbox Wicked Lovely collection I blogged about in a previous post, and although it was all great, I am totally obsessed with the 3 lipglosses offered as part of the collection! The nude shades are luscious, there is simply no other word to describe them. Wearing these makes me want to throw all of my other nude glosses away. And the container has a little miniature cat-o-nine-tails on the top! I LOVE IT! So awesome, I just thought it was a tassle and when I realized what it was supposed to be I about died - FANTASTIC!

I want to feel Wicked Lovely

So, those of you who have read previous blogs know that although I am a CHEAPSKATE with a capital C, I have a soft spot in my cheapskate soul for all things Smashbox. Yes, they are a bit pricier than the products I normally indulge in, but they are consistently SO worth it. And their latest collection, entitled "Wicked Lovely", looks fantastic!

What first caught my eye was the lip gloss ($18)
which comes in three excellent shades: coy (sheer nude), sweet (sheer apricot) and sultry (black cherry). These look SO SEXY! And really, isn't that exactly how you want lip gloss to make you feel?

There is also the Cream Liner and Liquid Shimmer combo ($32)
This little wonder contains 3 liners and 1 loose shimmer in a single pot, great for on the go (or just those of us with shelves already brimming with products) The liner colors include metallics in taupe, bronze and charcoal, and the shimmer is what looks like a great semi-neutral called Sparking Pewter.

The blush, called Charm, looks like the PERFECT shade of sweet/sinful pink ($24)

More nude lip fun with the Double Take Lip Color ($22)
This double ended lip pencil and creamy lip color comes in Gossemer, with a peachy pink pencil and a soft pink color and contains caffeine and wheat glycerides to moisturize and protect your pout.

Lastly, the Wicked Lovely take on their classic eye shadow duo comes in two color combos ($24)
One is a shimmery peach paired with a shimmery deep brown, and the other pairs shimmery ivory with shimmery inky charcoal.

I love the packaging/artwork associated with this line too, it totally captures that mix of sweet and seductive that a good nude/pink can accomplish like no other. And the nudes and pinks in this line look like they will do just that. Luxurious without screaming "Look! Color!". Vintage beyond just red. Yes please.

Also, on a related note, I recently was able to get my hands on some of the other Smashbox goodies I had been coveting in a previous blog. I have already tried the Photo Finish Primer with Dermaxyl (I never though they could improve on the original Photo Finish but they have, it made my skin feel and look amazing) and the O-glow cheek color, which is my new favorite blush ever for a natural looking, "I just hiked through the mountains and I feel fabulous" sort of flush. I will report on the rest of the test drives soon :-)

This post is for all of you, but especially for reader Cindy who was very curious as to the results of my AcneFree experiment. WELL..... drumroll please.....

I HAVE CANCELLED MY PROACTIV MEMBERSHIP. If actions speak louder than words, this is the most I can scream "YES!!!! FINALLY! A DRUGSTORE ALTERNATIVE TO PROACTIV THAT WORKS!!!" :-) :-) :-) I'm a happy happy girl.

So far I have tried the regular cleanser (the scrubby kind, it feels a bit less scrubby than Proactiv so you might want to use an occassional scrub or a washcloth if you are like me and scrub addicted) which works GREAT. This is the bottom line for me, even if I only use one of these cleansers (from Proactiv or AcneFree) and don't always follow up with the other products, I will NOT break out. YES! SWEET!

I have actually NOT purchased the toner or "repairing lotion" (I don't know what AcneFree calls them but that is what Proactiv called them - basically they are steps 2 and 3 of the system) because I am still working my way through extra proactiv I didn't use up yet, but I am SO SURE it will work after having tried the cleanser for some time that I really did cancel my Proactiv membership. Oh, and I also tried the 24 hour severe acne wash (a foam wash) because I was staying out of town and ran out of the cleanser and it was all I could find at the drug store, and it is a SERIOUS wash. Works well, really gets rid of any oil, I'm thinking I might use this as my emergency "there is an oil spill and its on my face oh why did I have to eat all those Doritos" face wash, as it is almost too strong for use 2 times a day for me.

Anyway, there is still further investigation to be done, but so far, ACNEFREE, I HEART you, I HEART you very much.

I've just been STUPID busy with work lately. GUH. But I promise my renewed efforts to post frequently will not wain. I haven't stopped THINKING about all things beauty and such, just been a bit of a lazy girl when it comes to postings. Anyway, full steam ahead!

One company that I recently came across that I know nothing about but looks fantastic is APIVITA, a Greek skincare company. Does it make it seem a bit more exotic and enticing that it is from Greece? Yes. Am I a complete tool for thinking so? Say what you will, but I bet deep down the following products sound sooooooooooooo good to you too:

First, a multitude of face masks to choose from, each box containing 6 mask applications for roughly $6 American I believe, THAT I can do. The ones that popped out at me most were the Calming mask with Dittany of Crete, the Deep Cleansing mask with Argile (green clay), Revitilizing mask with Orange, and the Skin Food mask with Honey. I also found the Deep Face scrub with Olive captured my fancy a bit.

APIVITA's website is actually www.greekskincare.com , and on it you can find any type of skin product your heart desires, some pricier than others, but all intriguing. And I'm DEFINITELY going to have to try one of those masks....

Although I have a very strict product regimen for my face due to obnoxious breakout issues if I vary from said regimen, I also buy facewash for my fiance to use, and thus am able to still get my testing jones out to a certain extent. My latest find is Vitamin C Refreshing Cleansing Gel from Avalon Organics (the same company that makes my beloved ALBA products)

This stuff was a good deal, $10.95 for 8.5 fl oz, and boasts that it "gently removes impurities and nourishes skin with organic Aloe. Fortified with the synergistic action of Vitamin C plus Lemon Bioflavonoids, Melatonin and organic White Tea to refresh and balance for healthy, radiant skin." It also explains that "Magnesium Ascorbal Phosphate is a form of vitamin C that is readily utilized by the skin cells to protect against damaging free radicals, and stimulate collagen and elastin production. One of the most stable forms of vitamin C, it will remain active over the shelf life of the product", which is something that I never even thought about (the stability of something like Vitamin C) but it makes sense.

Lasty, it is scented with organic sweet orange essential oil and it SMELLS FRIGGIN FANTASTIC!!! If I wasn't on a Proactiv (or possibly AcneFree) regimen I would TOTALLY use this product like a FIEND. PS - I had to use it the first day I got it because I was out of Proactiv and hadn't found AcneFree yet, and it did a super job, skin was really clean but not dry. :-)

PROACTIV ALTERNATIVE????

I am a product jumper. It's true. Even the products that I LOVE more than anything else I will eventually ignore for a while, because I like to try new stuff. The exception to this rule has been my skin SAVIOR, Procativ. I love Proactiv, and wouldn't have looked elsewhere at all if it hadn't been so obnoxious to buy a skin care system that wasn't available where I do my shopping (and I kept running out before my next shipment would get here!). Frustration, as I would be forced to use something else in the meantime, and would inevitably break out. Ugh. But then while I was in the drug store this weekend, I noticed what was unquestionably a knock off version of proactiv, called AcneFree. Although the name is not as nice, it looks to be pretty close to the real thing. Even the packaging screams "GET IT?? LIKE THE ONE YOU ORDER ONLINE!!!"

Hmmmm... I hemmed and hawed. But the cleanser was only $6!! And I was out of cleanser. So I bought it, vowing to look up this week what the price difference really was, and more importantly, if AcneFree was cruelty free like Proactiv.

Well, lovelies, a 3 piece kit consisting of cleanser, toner and repairing lotion from Proactiv is $40 plus shipping, and the same size kit from AcneFree is only $20, with NO shipping since I can just hop on over to CVS to grab it. AND... NO ANIMAL TESTING!!! Now I'll just have to see how the cleanser works in comparison. Hmmm... could be intersting, though.

Really, Urban Outfitters, REALLY?

The Neon Wayfarer ($8)

It all started, I think, with my first viewing of the album cover for MGMT's album "Oracular Spectacular":

I don't know what hit me about this picture (the album, BTW, is definitely my FAV album of the year - SO FANTASTIC), perhaps it was the free and enthusiastic usage of neon, but something struck me as SO 80's about this in a way that surpassed ALL of the 80's throwback so far. Then, while I was at Coachella (the big music festival out near Palm Springs that we frequent every year), I kept seeing all these guys looking very, well, 80's. Not 80's-American Apparel-throwback-indie-trendy, but 80's. With mullets and Corey Feldman does Michael Jackson glasses. And they were totally serious. But I figured, hey, it's the desert, people are weird at Coachella (you see some STRANGE fashion choices). Then I see these neon sunglasses on Urban Outfitters' website, and that is when I KNOW - we have crossed the line from 80's as kitch throwback to rekindling a love affair with things that should have died a permanent death. What's next? Are we destined to return to a time when THIS is what people aspire to look like?

(and who the hell is that guy in the top left corner? did I just forget him? Was he the Poochie of SBTB?)

TROPICAL PARADISE... IN A BOTTLE

So, I've been looking through the PETA list of cruelty free companies lately. I don't agree with everyone PETA does, but if a company can make it on to that list I KNOW they are cruelty free because PETA doesn't mess around with that stuff. That is how I came across Baudelaire from my last post, and how I have come across this latest fun store, THE BUBBLE SHACK ( www.bubbleshackhawaii.com ), a soap company based in Hawaii. They really make their Hawaiian themed stuff IN Hawaii, what a concept, right? I know... I really want to order some stuff from them because their products look GREAT!

First off, you know I am already thinking about the COCONUT VOLCANO scent:

"Our Coconut Volcano tropical bodywash is an absolute explosion of creamy Hawaiian coconut."

Or the Grass Skirt Holiday Scent:

"With papaya nectar, pineapple, exotic tonka bean and sea grass, you”ll be dreaming of long grass skirts and beachside cocktails for a moment of pure paradise."

Or even Hawaiian Water Ocean Bliss:

I'm not sure how you include Ocean Air in a candle, but I'm in for a test run, that's for sure.

This store offers a wide selection of unique scent combinations in all the regular stuff for bath and body (lotions, soaps, body wash), loofah soap (per the website: "Did you know that the loofah is a climbing plant and it’s distant cousin is the cucumber? SWEET!!!!

I know I shouldn't think so, but so often I do. And when I find a site like Baudelaire (www.baudelairesoaps.com), a website that carries several luxurious, cruelty free personal care lines from places like France, Switzerland and Italy, I TOTALLY envision the richest bathing experience ever. These fill me with wanting:

And, they carry men's products too, which I think is cool and handy with Father's Day coming up, so I thought this cologne looked excellent.

And, is it just me that thinks that an old fashioned shave set with a cup, brush and real soap (used of course with a non-electric razor) is the SEXIEST and COOLEST thing EVER? Just me? I doubt it... Well, if you ARE like me, or know someone who is, then you will appreciate why I think this shave set is too amazing...

The kit comes with an awesome shaving dish, brush and luxurious men's shaving soap. I love love it. So much.

ELF Makeup update

So as some of you might remember, I was very excited to order some of the $1 makeup from the Eyes Lips Face line, especially after I got a discount coupon to save even MORE. Well, I received my ELF shipment yesterday, and so far have been VERY pleased. So pleased that I ordered a few more things this morning :-)

DISCLAIMER: For some reason for the last 2 days I have not been able to successfully upload images to the blog. I have to look into this, as it has lead to various half finished blogs being abandoned out of sheer frustration. Therefore, I hope to get this fixed soon, but in the meantime, you will have to settle for the extra step of going to www.eyeslipsface.com if you want to see pics of the mentioned products. :-( Sucks.

What I have tried so far:
The tinted moisturizer in Tone 1. It seems cool, I am TOTALLY inexperienced in the ways of tinted moisturizer though and feel that I will need to play around with this a bit to see if the coverage works for me.

The all over color stick in Pink Lemonade. This is nice. I like color sticks. This one is VERY shimmery, but I dig that at this time of year, and the pink color is suble but intense.

HIGHLIGHT #1: The nail polish in Nude. I went back and ordered another bottle today. It is a buck, has a great nude color and seems to be holding on well (believe it or not since applying it yesterday afternoon I have already put it through the ringer, I had a cook/clean-up night at the apt last night, which means I'm washing my hands or washing dishes ever few minutes it seems. This sort of night has been enough to chip lesser polishes within hours. This polish ROCKS!!!

HIGHLIGHT #2: The Super Glossy Lip shine SPF 15 in Angel and Pink Kiss. This gloss is EXCELLENT. Heavy but pretty, it won't be gone 5 minutes after you apply, it has sun protection, smells good, and looked REALLY REALLY pretty. I ordered some more of this too.

Still more to try, and I also ordered a few of their lip plumper glosses, 2 body lotions, and a pressed powder to try. SWEET!

Can I tell you HOW MUCH I CAN'T WAIT to check out your aisles of collections by celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker and Amanda Bynes with most pieces under $10?

Ok, so since I blogged on SJP'S BITTEN collection already, I thought I would do a little internet detective work and check out Amanda Bynes' line DEAR. I happen to think that AB always looks super cute, sexy and pulled together. Seriously, the girl never misses a beat. So..... I wasn't too surprised with what I found. Young skewing, mostly casual clothing, some of which is really cute! They also have this thing called "My Closet" on the site where you can match pieces together and save them as "outfits", which I just had wayyyyy too much fun playing with (although in order to do it you have to go through a basic "registration" process - whatev - but for DOB it only went back to 1986! AAAAAHHHH! Thanks for making me, an excited potential customer, feel like an old crone). Unfortunately, I was also not able to figure out how to cut and paste or save the clothing combos I came up with to post them here, but TRUST me, they were quite slammin. That's right.

So I would venture to guess that I will be paying Steve & Barry's a visit soon, very soon. I'll keep you posted. Has anyone been to one already? Does it live up to my anticipation?

Ok.... breathe..... ok. Whoa. Am I just REALLY REALLY late to the BITTEN party or what? Until this morning, I had no idea that fashionista/star extraoridinaire Sarah Jessica Parker had her own line called Bitten exclusively available at Steve & Barry's around the country. Well, you say, lots of stars have their own lines, big deal. Well, would an antire line for under $20 be a big deal!?!?!? Pretty much everything I saw on the site was $8.98. I'll say it again. EIGHT NINETY EIGHT!!!!! Wow. GO SJP. She is endlessly cool. She could EASILY have started an overpriced line and people would have bought it. You know they would have. But instead she did this. I just realized this morning that I have not blogged about jewelry at all. So I aim to remedy that with this entry. First I will say that some cheap jewelry (costume jewelry or non) is cool, and some isn't. BUT you can find really amazing stuff if you look for it. From the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CA near Palm Springs. It is a weekend that is always fun, and always tests the abilities of my products to keep my physical appearance and well being in tune (what with the sand, the wind, the 100+ degree heat, yipes! I checked it out, as I have heard of ELF but haven't tried any of their stuff yet, and first things first, they are cruelty free and extremely active, even donating a portion of the sales of their "fur free" tweezer set to stop the fur trade. YAY!!! I LOVE YOU ELF! And it looks like they have some neat buys.... And for a FRIGGIN DOLLAR A POP???? Yeah.... I'm in. I also like that they have reviews for each product by users on their site (and they are real reviews, because there is a good mix of likes and dislikes with each product). This is what I think I am gonna try:

Alright, maybe not quite an alternative, but a consideration for those days when you want the look of skinny jeans without having to deal with skinny jeans. Voila! Enter the jean legging. Perhaps these have been around for ages and I am just a slow bandwagon jumper, but I just discovered them a few months ago and ordered 2 pairs from Japan off of Ebay. This was one of those purchases that sounded great in my mind, but I wasn't actually sure how much I was going to wear them, being about a size 8 leggings are a specific ensemble choice for me. But, I can honestly say that I WEAR THEM ALL THE FRIGGIN TIME! They are so handy on the weekend or during a lazy morning to throw on with a billowy blouse or pullover sweater, and they look much cooler than any other easy "stretchpant" alternative I can think of. They really do look kinda like skinny jeans!

THE WARRENTED SPLURGE

Sometimes, even for a cheapskate, a splurge is a good thing. I was at the hairdresser this weekend (no, that wasn't the splurge) and was, of course, perusing the magazines while getting my highlights applied. As I looked in an In Style magazine from a few months ago, I came across a product feature for Smashbox's "O-Gloss" ($22), and completely wanted it.

As you know, I am always on the search for the perfect pink-flushed lip gloss, and this product intrigued me. O-Gloss Intuitive Lip Gloss promises that "this innovative silky formula goes on clear and then reacts with your personal skin chemistry to instantly transform into your own custom shade of pink". It's like the mood lipstick from my childhood days, but a) I bet it actually works and b) mood lipstick always seemed to tell me that my mood was for lip color remeniscent of flamingo pink, but uglier. But Smashbox, oh Smashbox, I trust that your product will not do this. Not only does it claim to find the perfect pink blush shade to compliment my personal chemistry, it also has good for me stuff in it - "O-GLOSS is packed with our exclusive microcirculating Goji Berry-C Complex™ and ginkgo biloba, pomegranate seed antioxidants, revitalizing marine botanicals and moisturizing avocado oil for lustrous shine". Niiiiice. I will have to try this soon and tell you all the tales of my pink tinted adventures.

While on the Smashbox website, I found MORE products to covet. I think that because I have seen what a huge result the products of theirs that I have tried have delivered, I'm caught in their beautiful web now. Sigh....

1. PHOTO FINISH FOUNDATION PRIMER SPF 15 WITH DERMAXYL COMPLEX

AAAAAAAH! How could Smashbox make my favorite product even better? By adding SPF 15 and their Dermaxyl Complex (an advanced peptide treatment clinically proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles over time) to their already fab formulation replete with vitamins A & E, grape seed extract and green tea for antioxidant protection. I LOOOOOVE the old Photo Finish to bits, and this one looks even better. It is an extra $8 ($42 for this puppy) but really, in terms of upscale cosmetics, that is still a steal and this product is SO WORTH any price! I must try this soon....

2. FILTER WITH DERMAXYL COMPLEX ($28)

I also completely want to try this product. It promises a one-two punch of camoflauge and correction. First, "this portable pen-like filler has a silicone tip that targets the delicate eye and mouth area instantly filling in laugh lines, flattening crow’s feet and disguising fine lip lines", plus the Dermaxyl to help actually improve your facial lines. Knowing how much I love their primer, I can't wait to test this one out.

3. SHEER FOCUS TINTED MOISTURIZER ($30)

I have always liked the idea of tinted moisturizer, but just haven't really ever tried it. But with the summer months coming on fast, and me feeling pretty dandy about my skin quality at the moment, I might give the ol' tinted moisturizer a try. Smashbox's take promises that their "unique citrus honey moisturization technology nourishes skin as it absorbs excess oil throughout the day and UVA/UVB SPF 15 guards against future damage so skin stays flawless and protected". Sounds sweet.

Lastly....

4. O-GLOW INTUITIVE CHEEK COLOR ($26)

It makes so much sense to me that the personalized color flush capability of their O-Gloss would also be a welcome addition to cheeks. I've been neglecting new blush advances lately, using a stick blush that I have almost worn through, so it is time to find something a bit better, I think. All the good stuff of O-Gloss, but for my cheeks! MUST TRY THIS!!

THE GREAT FACE PRODUCT EXPERIMENT UPDATE

I figured I would update you all on how I was liking the Alba night cream and mineral face powder I bought a few weeks ago...

First, the night cream. A few weeks ago I bought Alba's Sea Plus Renewal Cream as a new night creamand I must say that so far I love it! Now I must admit that before I got this cream I was guilty of not always washing my makeup off my face at night (SHOCK!). This is bad, I know, and most nights I tried to, but sometimes when I got home late my pillow was just too enticing. Since I got this, however, I have been totally steller on the night face care routine tip, so that may have had an overall effect too. Now, back to the cream: I have NOT broken out, and it has already made my skin softer. NICE! It smells good, and is really really thick (sort of a body butter consistancy). It tingles when I put it on, which freaked me out a little bit at first, but I have had nothing but good results. I noticed yesterday in the mirror that the texture of my skin just looks nicer. YAY ALBA! It has only been a few weeks, so we shall see what sort of an end result I get with a little more time, but so far so good.

During that same CVS trip, I also purchased both Revlon and NYC mineral face powders. I am still deciding on these. The Revlon powder was the first to be tried. I have had a bit of a problem getting very much to come out when I shake it, which is annoying, but once I get it on my face, I do have to say it looks really really nice. It gives me a subtle finish ALL DAY (seriously no shine for hours) and actually provides more coverage than I had expected. I think it works best on a good skin day, since it is still more subtle than the ol' foundation/powder combo, but I really dig it for daily wear.

I have only tried the NYC powder once so far, so I still need to do a few more tests with this one. It went on easy and lasted well, but I think the color I got (which was light) might actually be a bit too dark for my face still. Not sure, only had a chance to look at it for a minute or two. But neither has made me break out, which is nice, and both really keep my face matte for many hours (hallelujah!).

Back on the Alba tip (I think I am getting obsessed with Alba products), I was so impressed with the face cream experiment that yesterday I bought their Green Tea Eye Gel

It promises the combined impact of aloe vera (with skin-building amino acid and protein compounds) and green tea (loaded with antioxidants) will soothe, smooth and protect while cucumber and kelp extracts will firm and tone my eye area. It also has chamomile and papaya extract, and Vitamin C. Sounds good to me. I have never used an eye GEL before, only creams, so using it this morning was weird. The consistancy was definitely very reminiscent on using an aloe vera gel, which felt weird. And I squirted out too much, bummer. BUT I have to say that my eye area actually feels really really hydrated and firm right now, several hours into the day. At $16.95 for 1 fl oz ( a LOT of bang for your buck for eye cream) I could get used to this.

Well, it seems to be back, and for good reason. A simple, playful little white summer frock is appropriate in a range of situations, and white looks especially good against the (real or fake, preferably fake) tan skin of summer. I don't have one right now, but after checking out these couple I am feeling the need to remedy this. Take a look at these:

I am so excited. Two cruelty free products I have been searching for for what seems like ages are teeth whitening strips and a resonably priced self tanner. Well, I have FINALLY found the latter! YAY! The only cruelty free self tanners I was aware of previously were rather expensive department store/top of the line brands, and if I am actively using a self tanner I go through it so quickly I couldn't hang with that. So, right now, I am pasty. BUT this morning during a quick CVS run I saw THIS

I was ridiculously excited. Seriously. Of course, since it is Nivea, it was extremely reasonably priced, and a BONUS was that they were including a cute blue and yellow tote bag for summer with each bottle purchased. So I bought 2. Yesssssss....... I can't wait to feel like a bronzed goddess (while carrying my cute tote to the beach or some such. It really is a cute tote!) And, because Nivea is infinitely awesome, this moisturizer not only tans, but FIRMS TOO! Excellent.

Now I just need to find cruelty free teeth strips and I will be a happy camper!!!! Anyone know of any non-testing company that makes strips?

I'M SPEAKING OUT!!

As the weather begins to heat up and we all start realizing that swimsuit season is almost here, it is time for a post regarding the oh-so fun and sometimes scary subject of swimwear. And I am hereby speaking out once and for all against the dreaded TANKINI. At some point, someone successfully convinced the mass population that if you were too wary of your midsection to feel comfortable in a bikini, that the answer was therefore to buy a two piece nonetheless, just one that came down further to ALMOST meet your suit bottoms. In theory, this sounds nice. HOWEVER, the way every tankini I have ever seen or tried on is designed results in the top ending right at the one spot that someone shying away from a 2 piece wouldn't want to showcase in a now highlighted strip of flesh. BAH! It makes no sense to me, so you will see NO TANKINIS in this entry. I am however frequenting the gym and NOT the vending machine this season in the hopes that a 2 piece will be in store for me when the weather heats up fully, so you will get some of my favorite bikini and one piece finds. I also must admit that although I have not tried any of the MONOKINI style suits that have popped up recently, I like their cut and think it would actually be flattering on most body types who want to try something a little more daring than a one-piece. But I'm feeling a little bit "ugh" this morning.... So when I saw a reference to celebrity trainer David Kirsch's thermo bubbles

it sounded intriguing. Here is what the product description reads:

Hmmm.... It's $40 for 10 servings, which is a bit pricey for this girl, but really that's only $4 a drink, which rivals any fancy drink at _____ (fill-in-the-blank coffee franchise of your choice). I looked on his site but I couldn't find info as to if his products were cruelty free, but since I know he is involved with animal rights issues and has been for some time, it would lead me to think (or hope so). Does anyone know? Has anyone tried this product? I might have to further investigate. Or maybe I'll just get out the ol' tae bo dvds this weekend. It's really a toss up at this point.

I saw this picture of Sarah Michelle Geller at the recent Paley Center Buffy Reunion in this petal-colored dress a little while ago, and just kept coming back to it. I'm not sure I'm super hot on the black tights and shoes, but the dress is excellent! The color just pops, but isn't too over the top.

Then I happened upon this dress on Forever21.com (Lily Flower dress, $27.80), it is a different (but equally cute) style, but has that same great petal color. Love it! PS - it also comes in a nice leaf green color...

Perhaps it is the fact that I am sitting in my office on a beautiful Monday morning, but all things coconut or otherwise tropical sound especially appealing to me today. I must say that I have been very impressed with everything I have bought from Alba (http://www.albabotanica.com/) so far, including my weeklong night cream experiment, so while perusing their website this morning, this product sounded divine ($11.95 for 20 oz)

Their Coconut Milk Cream Body Wash, from their Hawaiian Spa line, sounds soooo relaxing and good for my skin, with cocoa butter, shea butter and flax, safflower and borage oils, as well as coconut and aloe, all packed in to 7 fl oz of tropical goodness for only $8.95! WOO HOO!

This sounds de-lish as well - their Passion Fruit Bath Salt (also from their Hawaiian Spa line) is a blend of epsom salt and sea salts combined with passion fruit, pinapple, mango, vanilla and papaya extracts (and some hibiscus too!) for what sounds like a really really nice bath experience.

I am also currently completely addicted to Alba's Terragloss in Bloom (42 oz for $5.95)
This substantial but subtle gloss is once again a perfect shade of JUST SLIGHTLY blushed pink, totally natural looking and soothing to wear with lots of shea butter and vitamin E in it. Plus it smells like vanilla (good vanilla, not bad vanilla). Yesssssss......

1. Good for this transition weather from winter to spring, this Brown and Blue Military Influenced Dress ($17.95) is really cute and low key, with a solid brown body and dark blue piping by the shoulders

Ok, its finally gotten a little nicer and more springlike out here today (its been cold by LA standards this week), so I thought I would share a few more cute spring finds. All the clothes in this post are from Heavenly Couture (http://www.getheavenly.com/), a store which I found online and which you can shop from online, but which also apparently has 4 southern california locations, so you could check it in person too if you are local. Also, because my awesome friend Monika pointed out to me that the 15DollarStore from my previous post doesn't take returns, I am now going to start checking for that stuff too. Heavenly Couture takes exchanges within 15 days of shipment for online shopping, and I don't know about their in-store policy, but hey, with so much cute stuff, I'm down with exchanges. :-)

1. This cute printed Wide Strap Halter Dress lists for $17.95, is 100% cotton, and just embodies warm weather relaxation

CELEB LOOKS FOR LESS

Ahhhh... Kate Beckinsale, no one can deny this beauty generally looks great, whether its on the red carpet or out and about. I particularily liked this extremely simple but elegant look I saw recently

This is a really easy look to re-create for next to nothing, and without buying real leather. First I found this top from GoJane.com

The Weldon Top ($17.99) comes in several colors including this nice dark blue (which they call teal for some reason). This totally would capture the cut, color and drape of Kate's top.

Pair this with some straight leg dark denim, like this pair from ModaXpress (Modaxpressonline.com)

These are called the Dark Denim Flap Pocket Junior Jeans, and list at $19.99. The leg is just straight enough to move nicely over a set of killer black sandal heels, like the ones Kate is sporting (although here I have to say I went with a slightly different style as I think hers would be a bit much for a lot of us girls just running around town). Once again GoJane delivers, with these cute heels

I thought these Woven Platform Heels captured the platform sass but were a bit more wearable, plus they are just fierce. At $22.99, they aren't too steep. (I seriously need to get some shoes from GoJane soon, their selection is amazing and SO REASONABLE!)

Lastly, the cute beige oversize tote. After a bit of looking around, I ended up on the old standy Target site, and was pleased to find this Mossimo Tote in Tan/Natural for $29.99 (made of polyurethane)

So, there you have it! An easy way to get this look for $90, including shoes and bag :-) And no leather (you know you'll never miss it!) YAY!

Ok, so at lunch I had to go to CVS to pick up a new nightguard so I stop grinding my teeth, and while there I grabbed a couple more things as well.

1. Mineral Makeup: First I picked up the NYC mineral makeup powder I blogged about earlier. Then, for good measure, I grabbed the Revlon version of the same thing in "fair", just so I could compare the two. I put the Revlon one on in the car after I left, and at first was sort of frustrated because as most loose powders are, it was a little messy. But that is just klutzy me, probably. I looked in the mirror and thought it pretty much looked like powder, but I realize that I put it on a half day old face, which is not the best testing ground for this sort of thing. Once I got back to the office though, I checked it out in the mirror in the bathroom and it does look smoother and more substantial than regular powder, but without the makeup look of foundation. Not sure yet, must experiment. I will let you know.

2. I also needed a new night cream, and wasn't yet decided on what I wanted, being relatively new to high tech night creams (for years I avoided them for fear of breaking out). So after perusing the aisle, I settled on Alba's Sea Plus Renewal Cream.

This retails for $14.95, which was within my budget (some nightcreams are insanely expensive!), and I like that it includes Alpha Lipoic Acid (derived from vegetables), avocado and kukui oils, and their unique Marine Complex (several kinds of algae extracts), which I secretly think I dig on all the more because I am a pisces. HA! This is my first non-Proactiv high tech night cream, so we shall see how it goes. I dig Alba's other products, however, and their cruelty free, nature-based stance combined with their ok prices. Sweet.

During my online budget fashion hunt, I also came across the website http://www.chicstar.com/ , which, alongside some "clubby" outfits delivers an interesting mix of slightly goth, slightly rockabilly inspired threads at a fraction of the price of such retailers as Stop Staring, who can't be beat for cute stuff if you are in the mood to splurge. If the purse strings are pulled in a bit too tight for that, however, this site might just fit the bill. Check out these cute pieces:

1. High Waiste Lace-Up Corset Pencil Skirt

This skirt, which is 100% polyesther and machine washable, comes in black and red and lists at $29.95. I would totally sport this with a simple black top and some killer heels.

2. Sexy Plunging Polka Dot Dress

For an awesome wool dress, I would do most anything. This is listed at $59.95, but is SO FRIGGIN CUTE! Check out the great cut, piping, and ruffle at the back of the skirt. This one is wool/polyesther, dry clean, but I think its worth it. Drool....

6. Crochet Lace Bell Sleeves Boho Mini Dress

This dress comes in black or navy, is only $29.95, and is cotton/machine wash. This. Is. So. Cute.

7. Oversize Buttons Dolly Swing Wool Jacket Coat

Ok, this coat is $79.95, but that's not bad for a full swing coat, right? It is wool/polyester, comes in black and grey. They have TONS of cute vintage looking trench and other style coats on this site.

Bottom line: I started making a list of stuff I thought was cute enough from Chicstar to post in this entry and I had to cut it because it got too long!!! But they have too much cute stuff, check it out for yourself. I still haven't found anything over $100 on their site, and tons under $30. Sweet.

Get on the SMASHBOX bandwagon

It's time I posted something about one of my favorite companies ever - SMASHBOX. I had known about Smashbox for some time, but as a certified cheapskate I hadn't gotten around to trying any of their oh-so-talked about products, until a friend of mine who works there changed my mind with the help of a few of their staples. First of all, let me say that everything, yes EVERYTHING, I have tried from Smashbox is excellent, you really can tell it is very high quality. Here are a few of the standouts that I think are worth a few extra bucks for what they deliver:

1. EYE SHADOW TRIO

I tried this little wonder in "Twilight", which includes a shimmering white, silver, and black, all colors that I didn't have too much experience with in terms of shadow. I needn't have worried about that though, the color was intense, so a little bit went a long way, but at the same time surprisingly low key. Perfect for that kicked up night on the town look. The trio comes in a range of color combinations, from bold to subtle, and once you try it you WILL notice the difference (I think the quality is even better than most of the other "higher quality" department store brands I have tried over the years). I admit, I still use other shadow too, because at $28 a pop this is an indulgence, but worth every penny.

2. PHOTO OP UNDER EYE BRIGHTENER

Ever since I can remember, I have what my family lovingly dubs "swedish circles", in an apparent effort to chalk up our dark under eye circles to our partial Scandinavian heritage (my family is odd). Regular old cover up helps, but until I tried this under eye brightener I had no idea how much the right product could completely transform the look of my under eye area. WOW! I'm going through my tube of this like there is no tomorrow. I am completely sold on this product, and at $18 a tube, its still a bit pricey but lasts for a while.

3. PHOTO FINISH FOUNDATION PRIMER

Holy flawlessness, batman! This is my favorite product hands down right now. I wasn't all over the primer idea, even though I had heard a lot about them, until I tried this product for myself. Not only does it add a whole other level of flawless finish to my makeup when worn in combination with it, if I don't feel like wearing a full face of makeup but don't want that "no makeup" skin either, I just apply this over my moisturizer and I'm so good to go. It goes on matte, lasts all day, and doesn't clog my pores. It is a bit pricey at $36, but seriously, if you get only one item from Smashbox, get this. You WON'T regret it.

Now, these are the products that really stuck out to me and justified the extra money, but you may be looking for something else. Whatever you are looking for, if you are in the mood to splurge while supporting a cruelty free and totally glamorous company, check out Smashbox first. They are totally TOP NOTCH.

IT'S A STEAL!

Ok folks, in my attempts to find not only cruelty free stuff for you, but super deals as well, I came upon a website called 15DOLLARSTORE.COM, where everything is, yup you guessed it, $15. And when they say everything, they mean everything. Which is not such a great deal for a plain tank top, but a SUPER deal for a dress, jacket, pants, shoes, etc. :-)

I couldn't resist, I had to explore the site to see if anything worthwhile could be found. And little while later and the verdict is in - if you are willing to sort through a fair amount of stuff you most likely don't want, you will actually find some cute stuff on here.

First I saw this cute summer dress

A bit of a continuation of my pink sundress obsessed blog last week, I know, but it really is cute, with the ruffles around the v-neckline and on the skirthem, and tiny polkadots. Then I saw this

And was truly torn. I THINK I can imagine this with some kicky 60's accessories looking really cute, I dig the vintage print and the bow in the back. Its fun.

Next I found another dress, and anyone who knows me knows I am a sucker for a cute retro looking jumper. I thought this was was very nice

Although you can't see it in the picture very well, this dress actually has a bit of a metallic sheen to it, making it a nice choice for a night out.

Obviously the black tunic top would look cute with black boots (which they had too - actually a really good faux leather boot and shoe selection for $15, I'm just not a huge fan of the pointy toe and most of these were pointy, but I thought these were too cute to ignore)

Can you tell I like brown and pink? I can't help it, I always gravitate toward these colors, but for everything brown I selected, there was corresponding black as well. Oh, and these accesories were also faux leather. :-) Happy day!

I love NYC

Although I do enjoy the city, I'm actually referring to the cosmetics line. They are upfront about their products being cruelty free, both on the packaging and on their website :-) , they are SUPER affordable (like wet n wild affordable) and their products work much better than those in a similar price range. I love their translucent face pressed powder (the puff sucks, but they always do), I just bought another one the other day and it is exactly what translucent powder should be, for such a great price - ready? - $1.99!! Yup.

And now I see that they have something I have been wanting to try for a while now: Mineral makeup. Mineral foundation/powders for the face are supposedly the be all end all for an easy, natural, flawless finish, not to mention that many purport the actual skin benefits of using this type of makeup. So, I have been curious, but lots of these products are in the $20-50 range, wich is too much for this girl. But I have ignored the talk about mineral makeup for long enough. I have seen this, and am out of excuses

And the cost? $6.99... sigh... could I possibly be in love with a makeup company? I think maybe.

SPRING FEVER!

I must admit, I have spring fever big time this year. All I want to wear is fun, feminine cuts and vibrant or delicate spring hues. I've had serious tunnel vision the last few weeks regarding the subject of my wardrobe. But putting that aside, I am a BIG believer in the power of some good, flatteringly cut dresses and cute flats or heels as THE go to outfit for any occasion. It can be casual or dressy as needs dictate, is always flattering, and if you select pieces that you like, it is the biggest no-brainer outfit there is. And a nicely cut dress will NEVER go out of style.

Perhaps my spring fever/dress mania reached a new peak this past Monday when I was able to go to the "Run Fatboy Run" premiere here in LA. While there, I thought one of the stars of the film, the lovely Thandie Newton, looked AMAZING in this pink and ruffled getup:

I don't know if I could pull off the super ruffled top of this dress, but she looked great, ultra feminine yet not too dressy, perfect for a coctail party, dinner al fresco, or, yes, a premiere. I love the classic pink, the feminine cut of a tailored waist, sexy neckline, and somewhat fuller skirt paired with little black peep toed shoes. PERFECT! So here are some great, frugal, and totally wearable takes on this look:

This gathered knit dress from GoJane.com is pretty reasonable at $30.99, and has the classic silhouette of a flatteringly cut neckline, tailored natural waist, and fuller skirt to make this something you could wear as is or add a belt or a cardigan to change it up a bit.

The Lindy Patent Peep-Toe Pump from Payless.com would look super cute with this dress. At $19.99, and all man made materials, I love these classic heels.

I love that this Ruffled Cotton Dress from Forever21.com is SUPER girlie with its frills and its bow, but the pink is very pale and not too overdone. It's only $27.80 and comes in black and white as well, if you aren't falling in love with pink all over again like I am. I think it would be GREAT with these cute shoes

These Floral Embrace Peep-Toes from Payless are so cute. Ugh. I think I might need to go get these now, and give myself a nice pedi and just work it. Can't you just see this dress and shoe combo for a warm afternoon stroll down the promenade or something? Even if its just getting groceries, it would still make the day more fun. And of course since they are cloth uppers and man made lowers, you are good to go.

Another great spring color that is feminine but not as "girlie" as pink is blue. This dress has little white polka dots on it and is only $22.80 from Forever21.com. It comes in jade/white (pictured) and... sigh... pink/white :-) I think this dress is fantastic, and would be perfect with

These great Jordan Wedges in white from Payless.com. They are listed at $14.99, all man made materials. I am coveting these ever since I had a pair of Steve Madden white wedges that were adorable but unwearably uncomfortable. I have had numerous pairs of Steve Madden shoes over the years, and several other wedges, which were all great and SUPER comfortable, but these were so painful. :-( But these ones from Payless are just as cute, and wayyyy less expensive.

This is called the "Typical Sundress" on Forever21.com (listed at $22.80, comes in yellow - pictured - or that same orange/coral from above) but I think they should call it the perfect classic sundress. There is nothing over the top here, just classic fit, and a great skirt. I seriously need to get one of these sundresses this weekend with the weather being so nice. And I love the yellow color, everyone can't seem to stop talking about yellow this season!! I think it would be cute with something like

These Abaete for Payless Harlow Pumps from Payless (listed at $19.99, comes in black and pink). Nice sized heal, peep toe (can you tell I'm diggin' on the peep toe this season? I seriously need to slap some polish on the ol' piggies soon I suppose), back buckle and open heel. AND really cute front detail.

Ok, so I will confess. Here is my plan. Now that I have this blog, I can't wait to spend hours online and in stores seeking out the best new (and old) beauty and fashion finds for you! You will be immensely impressed, and many people will realize what a wide array of product options they have open to them in this day and age, and will check my blog regularily with a hungry look in their eye, pining for the latest news. Ok, so I'm thinking big. :-)

In the meantime, however, having made an effort to buy only cruelty free whenever possible for a while now, I have managed to find some gems that are already a staple in my home. I will now share them with you...

(At the top of my list for so long was Tresemme hair care products, because they were supposedly cruelty free, were TOTALLY cheap, and work great, but I recently found out that Alberto-Culver apparently DOES test on animals. So no Tresemme, St. Ives, or Alberto VO5 folks. Bummer)

But on to the fun stuff :-)

1. PROACTIV SOLUTIONFor years and years, I had bouts with breakouts. Nothing insane, but once I got into my 20's I felt I had paid my breakout dues. So I tried a ton of things, but nothing was great. Then a girlfriend of mine recommended proactiv to me, and she was so enthusiastic about it I broke through my fear of informercial-releated products and ordered some. And... it is GREAT! My skin is no longer an issue ever. It is in the best condition it has ever been in. AND, proactiv states on their website that they do not test on animals, so I'm good to go. :-) The price is so worth it with this product, and when you think about it, it actually breaks down to like 20 bucks a month, which is not bad at all.

2. REVLON COLOR STAY FOUNDATION

For many sad years I didn't know that Revlon was a cruelty free company. Then, one fine day, I was informed of this, checked on it, and the heavens parted :-) I love Revlon. They have quality products for decent prices all around. This foundation is a great mainstay. It doesn't go on too heavy, doesn't clog my pores, and keeps my face fresh all day long. I also love their Color Stay pressed powder too.

3. REVLON COLOR STAY NAIL ENAMEL

Ahhhh... the perfect nail solution. I don't have a dishwasher, and I'm a little bit of a germaphobe, so my hands are in soapy water far more often than I would prefer. Most other nail colors, regardless of the amount of coats, are chipping within a few days. This 2-pack from Revlon is available in a bunch of great colors, and when used with the sealer shine stays PUT for me for at least 2 weeks. Seriously. This was a miracle find for me.

4. ALMAY MOISTURIZING EYE MAKEUP REMOVER LIQUID

I've playing the field with my makeup remover for a long time. I like to wear eyeliner and waterproof mascara every day, and shadow on many a day, and having spent a nice chunk of change getting laser eye surgery a few years back I have been on a quest to find the perfect remover that will take off everything easily enough to not have to stretch the delicate skin around my eyes with too much rubbing, but that is gentle enough to not irritate my eyes. I picked this up at the drug store about a month ago, and, just like that, my search has ended. Voila! Seriously, if you wear eye makeup at all, GET THIS PRODUCT. Your eyes will thank you. And Almay (which is owned by Revlon) has been cruelty free for a long time.

5. NIVEA VISAGE Q10 ADVANCED WRINKLE REDUCER EYE CREME

This is such a great basic eye cream. It's totally reasonably priced (as opposed to what most eye creams cost!!) moisturizes like crazy, and has sunscreen in it. This is the only day eye cream I ever use anymore. I'm actually still looking for a good night eye cream, so if anyone has a good suggestion, shout it out! Really, everything Nivea makes moisturizer-wise is fantastic. There is a reason why they have been moisturizer staples for so long - they work extremely well! And Biersdorf, their parent company, is, of course, cruelty free.

6. BURT'S BEES LIP SHIMMER in "RHUBARB"

Burts Bees, an eco and animal friendly company, has these great lip shimmers I discovered last year. I have actually been about 50/50 on the colors I've purchased so far (do NOT get the frosty ones), but the shade called "Rhubarb" is THE perfect pink flush that looks natural, but not too pink. AND they tingle on your lips with a healing feeling that is great! I go through this stuff like candy.

That is just a few staples to start with, but each one is well worth your time and effort, take it from me.

Thanks for stopping by. After years of being frustrated by not always knowing if something was cruelty free or not, and jumping for joy with the now expanding cruelty free product possibilities (it's not just tea tree oil and witch hazel!! Although I actually like tea tree oil...) I wanted to start a blog where I could geek out about all the amazing beauty products and fashions out there that are also animal friendly. YAY!

As a slight disclaimer, I am just a girl who is passionate about all things feminine and pamper related and not having to perform absurd acts on a helpless animal to get them. Therefore, everything I post on this site is researched to the best of my ability (and if I'm at all confused as to whether something is cruelty-free or not, I will say so), but I'm more than happy to receive corrections or additional info from you, the reader.
